On May 26, video footage began to circulate on social media of a white Minneapolis police officer choking to death a Black man named George Flyd by pressing his knee into his neck for 9 minutes.Within days, hundreds of thousands of people in major cities around the world put on their face masks and took to the streets in protest. For the first time in months, the pandemic seemed to take a back seat to social justice. Was this dramatic shift in majority public opinion a sign that real change and meaningful reconciliation finally were on the way?
